I have been trying to write this update for the past few hours now but I keep getting distracted. Mostly I've been distracted by silly commenting, or silly conversations with Matt. Or watching RK doing silly puppy things. Course RK isn't really a puppy anymore. he's going to be two in another few months. Though I've only had him about a year. I hadn't planned on him traveling quite so much as he has, and I'm lucky that he took to it so well. I'm not sure he even knows that there is such a thing as 'home' really. He just goes with me where ever I go and makes himself comfortable no matter where we are. The first couple times we go some place new he spends a lot of time near my feet or on the couch or bed with me, but once he's been there a few times he starts to get braver and explore every bit of space he can find. He especially likes to explore the spaces under couches and chairs. He gets confused when we go someplace and there isn't a couch and chair in the living room for him to explore. We've been over here to Matt's new place exactly three times now. the first time we only were here for about fifteen minutes before we left again. The second time we were here much longer, but RK stayed with us in the only currently furnished room in the house. I have to remember to get a foot stool or something to put next to the bed so the dog doesn't have such a hard time getting up into it. This time he's decided it is safe to go exploring and he has started with the bedroom. Yes it is the only furnished room in the place, and I'm currently sitting at the desk while Matt is off getting us something to eat. RK is currently under the bed sniffing every single dustbunny that has managed to form in the week since Matt's moved in. I know that once he's done under there he's going to sniff around unfer this desk, but the only thing he will find there are my toes and they have long since lost any attraction they once held for him.
Once he's done in this room he's going to go sniffing around in the bathroom, where he will find those puppy training pads that I put down for him when ever we are in a new place. It will only take him a few more visits before he feels brave enough to actually go out with me for a walk. I tried to take him for one earlier but everything smelled so strange and aparently someone in this building has a dog because every time we leave he whimpers and whines like I'm forcing him through a battle field or something. That and there's a spot of grass over along the fence line and whoever has that dog doesn't bother to pick up after their dog. I can't imagine RK will want to have his usual walks anytime soon. Eventually I will just have to force the issue but for now it's just easier to keep using the training pads for him. But the bathroom won't be very interesting to him once he finds the training pads and he'll be back to exploring the bedroom. He'll probably venture out into the other room the next time we come over here, or else he'll go out there later today and find nothing but some boxes lined up against one wall and a whole lot of space. He gets intimidated by so much empty space in an indoor type setting. We went to this one puppy park when we were in the US and it was just this really big open area inside a building. Because he was inside and on obviously man made materials, he didn't know what to do with himself so he just kept crouching near my feet the entire time. I really haven't ever figured out what exactly is his problem with big empty spaces like that. He has no troubles when we are outside in the grass at a park or in Matt's or my back yards. But if he's inside, he needs there to be something around to break up all that space.
if that's not the best excuse I've ever heard for going shopping then I don't know what is.
